On Wednesday I went to Bristol by train to visit a friend convalescing at home following a hip operation. As it was a lovely morning I decided to walk to the station along the disused railway line - the route I usually take into town - but continuing along its length to the far side of the town where the station is.
My walk took me just under an hour and was very scenic and peaceful.
How different it used to be when this tarmac path was a railway line complete with steam trains puffing dirt and smoke and noise into the atmosphere....
...now it is a real oasis of calm and greenery.
It was a good job I had enjoyed the sunshine and my walk as when I reached Bristol it was grey and mizzling and I was glad that my friend lives only a short walk away from the station!

What a lovely way to get to the station. Glad you didn't have too far to walk in the rain at the other end :-)

What a lovely walk. So peaceful looking. Thanks for taking us along.
ReplyDeleteI felt myself breath more slowly, and relax, just looking at your photos, what a lovely walk! Lx
ReplyDeleteThis is so peaceful. What a beautiful walk. I've never visited England so I think of it as London, Dr. Who, James Bond, and "All Creatures Great & Small." With a little "Monty Python" thrown in the mix. You are showing me a whole new world. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty walk.

A lovely walk as always. Changeable weather though, hope you are getting a bit more sun and warmth now.
ReplyDeleteWe have railway walks here too, they seem to be a haven for wildlife as well as flora.
ReplyDeleteWhat lovely photos. Railway lines are great wildlife havens, even when still in use. I have one at the bottom of my garden and badgers and foxes use the embankment as a direct route to town.
ReplyDeleteThe sunshine came out especially for you Jane!!! x
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful views. I was thinking about the contrast of rural oasis to bustling city and not surprised Bristol was a bit mizzy. My brother says they have not had the weather the rest of us have been enjoying. Lovely to spend time with friends, especially when they are incapacitated.I bet you made her day.
ReplyDeleteThat looks a lovely peaceful walk Jane. My car has been in for repairs and I have walked much much more this past couple of weeks. I have thoroughly enjoyed it and feel I have seen more of life and nature than I would have otherwise. I am determined to keep it up once I have the car back.
ReplyDeleteLovely photos - I love that dappled shade of summer.
ReplyDeleteA green and pleasant land indeed, so lovely. Your photos drew me in and I enjoyed the peaceful walk right along with you.
ReplyDeleteIs this where you walked before and I feared for your safety? :)
