Thank you

I don't know how to thank you all so much for your very kind and supportive comments and especially to those of you who e-mailed me with your good wishes.  It is true that it is when you have problems that you find out who your friends are!  Thank you all so very much - I am deeply touched.

Just after my last post I went down with a horrid cold virus when I completely lost my voice - some might say that was a good thing but I have enough difficulty communicating with my husband, who is deaf, at the best of times and you can imagine how frustrating it was not to be able to raise more than a whisper!  My voice soon returned but then I was coughing day and night for over a week and it all seems to be taking forever to go and has left me feeling tired and a bit sorry for myself - not helped by the weather here in our neck of the woods where it has been grey and dismal with plenty of heavy showers!  The clocks going back an hour recently means that it is now dark enough to need the lights on soon after 4.00 which doesn't help lift the spirits either.  I want to curl up and hibernate till it's all over and the Spring is here and I feel better.

I now have an appointment for my scan to be done on 30th November and had planned to stay away till I had something to tell you - I am feeling something of a fraud now though as the eye problem seems to have improved somewhat although of course I still don't know what caused the sudden deterioration in my sight and hopefully will know more after the scan.

I wonder if Kate at Harmony and Rosie who commented that perhaps it was "bloggers eye" might have something as I have realised just how much time I had been spending on the computer reading and posting and it is strange that the problem is much improved - might it be due to my leaving the blogosphere for a while?!  I will be back - you won't get off that lightly ! - but I will stay away for a bit longer as I don't want you to catch my low mood nor to undo any good that the rest may or may not have done for my sight.

The above photos are 1)  of the lovely walk we did one Sunday at the end of the Indian summer round Milborne Port   2)  and 3) of the walk we did on the Quantocks just before I went down with my virus.

See you all again in a few weeks and once more my heartfelt thanks for your concern and support.

  4. Lovely to hear from your Jane!
So glad that your eye has improved but sorry that you've been poorly with a virus.
If you're going to hibernate I think I'll go with you, won't it be great when spring is here.
Good luck with the scan and hope to hear from you soon!

  5. I have missed you and I hope that your scan is reassuring. Sometimes too much close work can have a bad effect on the eyes - it happens gradually then gets to a critical point. I'm glad that being away has helped.

  6. Lovely to see your update, Jane. I'm glad to hear your eye is improving, but so sorry you've had a horrible virus. They can make you feel very low afterwards. I hope you feel much better soon and that you have the energy and nice sunny days to enjoy your walks. Hope the scan goes well.
    Take care.

  7. You poor thing, you have been going through a rough time with your eyes and a horrible virus. I hope you feel better very soon.
I know the feeling well about wanting to hibernate in winter. The dull days and cold wet weather make me feel low too. I'll try to post some lovely sunny photos when our weather clears here downunder to cheer you up.
    Take care,
    Anne xx

  14. So glad to see this post. There's a nasty virus/cold going around the world it seems - so many people are suffering with it. I hope you are feeling back to normal, and that your eye problem will continue to improve.

  15. Thanks for the update. Still praying for your complete recovery. Take care of yourself (remember on an airplane the attendants always tell you to put the oxygen mask on yourself and then help others. READ THAT: If you don't take care of you, how can you help anyone else.) You are missed in BlogLand, but we'll wait. The pictures you've posted show your beautiful part of the world. I don't care for the time change myself - if you figure out how to fix that let us know.

  16. I am glad you are feeling better from the awful cold at least. We will all be thinking of you and do hope the upcoming scan will reveal nothing too serious, but a sure diagnoses and a course of treatment.

The word verification is "wingses" and may all these good wishes and prayers winging your way bring you many a smile and lots of hope and healing.

  17. I have been thinking about you and hoping that you were OK. I am sorry that you have not been well - and the weather and the darkening days really haven't helped, I am sure.

Re your eyes - it might be worth consulting your optician about special glasses. Because of my editing etc, I have a special pair which are for the computer/proofreading. It is worth really discussing what you do and how you do it - mine has been so helpful and knowledgeable in getting me exactly the right type of glasses. Also, and this holds particularly if you use a laptop, you might find that you are holding your neck and head awkwardly or in the same position for a long time (and even more so if you don't have quite the right lenses), which I have found can cause blurred vision because of the tension set up in eye and neck muscles, which then can take a little while to calm down and go away.

Sorry for such a spiel - hope you pick up soon. Lots of love winging your way.

  20. Hi Jane, I don't think you know me, but I am reading your blog and am feeling so sorry to hear about what is going on. I think at this point you just have to have faith that everything will be OK. You need to get your strength and spirit back by doing some things that you enjoy most. About the weather I just don't know, I think we all need to make sure we get our walks in and fresh air......and then get cosy inside. Thinking of you and hoping all goes well, xoRobin❤

  21. So lovely to 'hear your voice' Jane. Glad things seem to be on the up. You are right to take things slowly - what bad luck to go down with a virus too. The internet is such a draw - there is so much to explore, but I am sure yo will get the balance right for you,
    Love, Jill

  22. Glad to hear you are getting back to fine fettle once more Jane, despite that nasty cold virus.

I read Pomona's comment with interest as I too spend many hours in front of the screen for work purposes and for which I require a different prescription from my ordinary reading glasses. Worth looking into.

Hope your scan comes up with some answers. In the meantime take it slowly and get as much eye-rest and fresh air as you can muster!

  24. So glad to hear that things aren't so bad now, long may it continue and one more thing, don't lift heavy objects. I think I mentioned before that I know a lady who thought she was losing her sight with pains behind her eyes and blurred vision and it turned out she had strained herself from lifting heavy furniture around. It's strange how the body reacts to compensate for damage.

Anyway Jane, so pleased Dr harmony and rosie was helpful .. my bill is in the post !!!!!

  25. You are not a fraud at all, eye problems need to be taken seriously. Bad luck getting a virus too. Lovely to "see" you here again.

  26. Pomona and Cottage Garden are right about needing 'computer glasses'. I have some which now need changing as I have a new eye prescription - but they are so helpful for close-to jobs. I use them for painting details in pictures, too. Take care with your health, Jane, and I hope your scan goes OK.

  27. Oh Jane, you have my sympathies. I am also struggling to shift a similar sounding lurgy and feel utterly exhausted. I hope this weekend brings us some reprieve. Take care lovely xx

  29. Nice to hear from you Jane!! It is horrible to have to turn on the lights so early. It has been such a grey day today, I had to put my light on at 2pm,, so I could see to knit!

  30. Glad to read your sight is a little improved, but not that you've been poorly. I do hope that you can bounce back soon and that the scan only brings good news x
