No bucket nor spade but a day at the seaside!

No this isn't me - or at least not yet! I do hope these ladies won't mind me posting them on the internet but the photo opportunity was too good to miss. It reminds me of a card given to me once by a friend which has two old dears sitting side by side and says "Life is nothing with out friendship" How true!

As you can tell we went to the seaside today - a trip to Weymouth. There were some seriously expensive boats in the marina here! Look at that sky too!

The Esplanade

The beach

Tide was out so there were acres of firm sand for walking and hardly anyone about apart from a few people with dogs (not allowed on the beach during the summer months so making the most of out of season access)..

We decided to have lunch on the other side of the harbour and had to wait whilst the bridge lifted to allow the boats through. I knew this happened but had never actually witnessed it.

Bridge was lowered and we crossed to the other side - the smell of the seaweed, the cry of the gulls and the sights of the busy harbour all made for a brilliant outing. I returned refreshed and revitalised. Hope your weekend is good too.

  5. What a contrast there is between your day at the seaside and mine yet they are both lovely outings - and we both had nice weather too.
Hope the sky is still looking like that in your part of the world.
    Cheers

  13. Jane,
I have many memories of caravan holidays and funny little landladies in B&B's in Weymouth. It was the place we always went for childhood holidays. I used to love the Jubilee Clock and the wonderful sand sculptures made by the old chap up by the theatre end of the beach. There's a great nature reserve down at Radipole Lake but it looks like you had more than enough to do walking the length of the beach and taking in the harbour. Lovely to see the photos especially of the two ladies enjoying 'time out' in the shelter. Lesley x

  14. Beautiful pictures - so sunny and blue! I love Weymouth - you are lucky to live so near it. It's been sunny here this weekend though with a real nip in the air today!
    Have a lovely week.

  16. What lovely pictures.
I've never managed to be there when that bridge opens. Who needs Tower bridge?

  17. How sensible to make the most of the weather over the weekend on the coast - lovely photographs Jane, I especially like the last one of the harbour - there is something about boats and buildings in close proximity that is appealing - the coming together of two elements I suppose. Don't get washed away this week!

  24. Jane, your trip to Weymouth reminds me of lovely holidays spent there when I was a child, although it was very often not that sunny and we were usually to be found sitting on the beach under umbrellas and windbreakers!

Love the picture of the two ladies sitting in that very beautiful Victorian/Edwardian shelter - they don't make them like that anymore do they!
