Day out

Last Tuesday I had a day out - can you guess from these photos where I went?

There were bluebells and tall trees, grass and birdsong....

Would you believe me if I told you that these photos were taken opposite this building?

The Albert Hall in London?

Just round the corner a few minutes walk away was this building where I was headed - the Victoria and Albert Museum. This is a photo of the inner square.

I had my lunch here - not your average coffee shop is it? I had a sandwich here after seeing the Quilts exhibition - sadly no photography allowed but it was an interesting exhibition with a good mix of antique quilts and modern art too.

The shop was interesting too although I only bought a couple of postcards of the quilts but being a bit of a "bag lady" I had to take a photo of this lovely recycled bag although the price wasn't recycled so I didn't buy it at £150! But I love the idea of using all sorts of different fabrics in this way.
I have been away since then spending a few days with a friend in Wales - will show you some photos of that next time. Sorry I haven't been visiting your blogs these past days but I will try and catch up with them all soon.

  1. Oh I'm jealous Jane ;) Lovely pics. I just love everything about London, isn't it fantastic how you can be in the thick of things, turn the corner and be in a green quiet place... I need a London fix soon!!! Hope Wales was fun, am playing catch up too after being offline for what seems like an age! Ax

  2. Hi Jane! Glad to see you're ok. I was a bit worried.
I visited this museum in 1994 and although I liked it, I also found it a bit tiring with too many exhibits. I would have loved to see the quilt exhibition as I'm planning to start a baby quilt for a special friend soon.
    Take care!

  5. I was at the V&A not so long ago, but I saw the Grace Kelly exhibition - it was so beautiful. Will try and do the quilts before they disappear.

  7. Well I have to say I love London too so are you telling me that that is Hyde Park?
Whenever I've seen it it has been well into Summer with the grass fairly long and browning off a bit . It looks so pretty with bluebells too. What an asset it is to London.
    Thanks for sharing
    Cheers

  8. I love London parks at this time of year. the quilts exhibition sounds good. The V & A is in such a great building - it's too easy to get caught up in the exhibits and not take in the architecture!

  9. London is wonderful, isn't it? I love to go there but don't think I would like to actually live there. The V & A is at the top of my list for places to visit.

  10. The V&A is my most favourite place in London, I love it. Haven't been for years, because I don't cope well with all those masses and masses of people in London, but one of these days........

  13. I was born in London.....it will always have a special place in my heart.
There is always something interesting to do or see and the occasional green space that surprises you.

Do hope you had fun in Wales and that the weather was kind to you.

  14. No I wouldn't have guessed that! The park looked so quiet. The Royal Albert Hall is where Alan proposed to me a few years ago.
    Have a lovely weekend
    Warm wishes

  15. I loved the modern quilt 'How many times do I have to repeat myself'. Great idea to have used the fluff from the dryer as padding!
I also saw those recycled bags and dropped them quickly because of the price. Well, we know the expense doesn't include the price of the fabric! xx
