New beginnings

First and foremost I want to say how much I appreciated all your kind comments on my last post - it meant a lot to me to know that you were with me through the dark days - Thank you to all of you.

When Bambi died I knew that neither Mr M nor I would be able to dig a sufficiently deep hole to bury her in the garden - after all the rain the ground was too heavy and sodden so I had no option but to have her cremated.  I paid to have an individual cremation and to get her ashes back as I couldn't bear to imagine her tossed with any other animals into the furnace, if in fact that is what happens. It being Christmas and New Year things moved slowly and I finally got Bambi's ashes back just over a week ago - it was sad to think that she had been reduced to a little cardboard box but when I opened the box inside was this lovely wooden casket with her name engraved on the lid! She is now on the shelf in the kitchen where she always loved to be and not outside in the cold!  I know I am mad but it helps me!

Having got closure on that I began to notice that there were signs of new life coming along - this is one of my Christmas gifts from the wanderer and is outside in the garage in the dark/cold until the shoots are 4 cms tall when it will come indoors and hopefully provide me with lovely blue muscari to enjoy.

The roadside daffodils are in bloom now and providing hope for better things to come....

...as are some of the primroses in the garden.

A walk round Crewkerne followed by lunch with a friend was enjoyable last Thursday as was....

... a trip to Weymouth on Friday for a walk along the beach in the sunshine.

Just look at the sky!  This clock was installed to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1857.

We decided to see what the Lodmoor Country Park was and so crossed the road from the beach to what at first sight seemed to be closed down for the season ammusement areas but on further inspection was a pleasant circular walk back to the front.

So I am learning to accept the hole left by Bambi and can now think of her without tears and remember happier times.

My time out has given me the opportunity to do some reflecting on this and that and I feel that as I have been blogging now for three and a half years and as many of you have had problems with reaching the allotted limit for photos on Blogger unless you pay more at about this point and as I don't have much more to say except more of the same maybe now would be a good time to bid you adieu.  It may be that I return but the time I find I have for other things since I haven't been blogging nor commenting on other blogs is more important to me just now.  So to all those faithful readers, followers and friends I wish you well and bid you  au revoir at least for now!

  1. Hi Marigold Jam - I have just popped by to catch up on your blog and of course I am now so sad to hear you are giving up blogging just when I had found you, but I wish you well for the future and hope you enjoy your new found time. I am sure we will all miss you very much and especially those idyllic long walks and bus rides that you have taken us on. perhaps one day you will return and tell us more of your stories.
I'm glad that you have found some comfort from having the ashes with you. You will have plenty of lovely memories to look back on.
    Farewell for now x

  2. I don't for one moment think you're mad in how you have dealt with the passing of your little friend. Losing a pet is a very difficult thing and you have to get through it as best you can. I wouldn't have left her either.
I am very sorry though to hear that you have decided to leave the blogging world, your posts have always been interesting, maybe with time you'll reconsider , I hope so!
In the meantime Jane, I wish you well!

  4. Have only just found you, but have enjoyed going with you on your journey. So brave of you to share
your feelings. We have lots of pets now and in the past. They are
part of the family, and when we even lose a chicken there are tears
and then a smile because we did the best for them and loved them when they shared our lives.
    Enjoy your freedom from blogging
but will keep a look out if you decide to return. Lots of Hugs

  6. Just wanted to add that I think of you when I go through my bits and pieces - I have not used up all the lovely laces and threads you sent me in the sewing swap several years ago.
I'm glad we met that way.

  7. Oh dear, first let me say, how sorry I am about Bambi and that I didn't read the previous post, till now(due to being ill and not reading many at all) how sad, I can really sympathise with you and how you are feeling. I still miss my Bob who died in 2008.it is so sad because pets just do not live as long as us humans and they leave a huge hole in the family and in your heart.
Second I will be very sad not to read your lovely blog if you decide to give up. Maybe when you feel stronger in the spring you might just pop over and tell us how you are doing. Take care of yourself and good luck with your newfound me time. Xxxx

  9. With this post's beautiful and optimistic photos, I was not expecting your final paragraph. I'll be sorry not to see your posts pop up on my blog. Loss is such a difficult thing and sometimes it's better to take a break and consider the things we really want to be doing. I hope we see you again soon. Janice x

  10. Im glad you have Bambi back and that you've had some good weather to enjoy. I was only thinking about you the other day and wondering how things were. I'll be very sad not to read your blog anymore but understand that life moves on and things change, but if you ever change your mind I'm sure you'll be welcomed back with open arms (if that makes sense). Take care x

  13. It's been lovely getting to know you and seeing your part of the world here on your blog. Perhaps one day you will decide it's time to return here. In the meantime, however, may your life be enriched and rewarding for you as you spend time in the "now" moments of each day. You'll be missed.

  15. Such beautiful pictures of one of my favourite stretches of coast!

Of course we'll, I'll, be sorry to see you go, but sometimes blogging can leave you with little time to properly live the life you're blogging about ... enjoy your time away, but maybe just pop in once in a while to tell us how you're faring, please x

  18. Jane, I'll be so sorry to not see you around in Blogland, but you're right that you've got to do what makes you happy and if blogging no longer does that for you then it's time to move on. Maybe you'll get the urge to return one day, I hope so.

    xx

  19. I think having Bambi still with you in the kitchen is absolutely lovely and a great tribute to your dear little friend. Your blog, and you, have been an absolute delight and like many have said before me, I do hope that you pop back in and out for visits. X

  20. Having Bambi with you is important, also it is important to be happy with sad times and not the other way round.
Although I didn't comment a lot, I read your blog, and even went back to the beginning to read your blog too, so for me I will miss your writings and pictures. I do hope you will return.

  21. Dear Jane,
I'm so glad you have found a lovely spot for Bambi and that you are feeling better about her loss.
I shall certainly miss your contributions to the blogging world and always looked out for your posts and comments. Have a great time walking and taking photos, and I hope you pop into our lives occasionally to let us know how you are doing.

  22. Maybe you will return in the Spring when we may all be feeling a little brighter! You can just delete old photos that Blogger keeps(on picassa I think) and that frees up space for new photos. That is what I did anyway! Have some lovely adventures whilst you are not blogging and then return to blog about them. I will miss you. x

  26. I am so far behind in blog reading that I have just now found out about Bambi, so sorry to hear the news. I hope that you might, one day, want to come back to blogging as I have always enjoyed your writing; I do, however, respect your right to step back and reclaim your time.

My very best wishes to you!

  28. Having lost my sweet pup this last year I can relate to how you feel. Burying him in the cold ground made me feel so sad he was there all alone. I will miss you so much if you stop blogging, but will wish you well and will be here if you come back. Thank you for being my blogging friend and all your kind words of encouragement.

  29. You have been so encouraging to other bloggers and you will be greatly missed. I hope you're just taking a break and not not retiring completely.

  30. Jane, this post has the sound of finality to it. There is closure on two fronts it seems and keeping Bambi close sounds absolutely the right thing to do. I hope this comment is not the final time we communicate? I understand the decision to stop blogging but we've shared a quite a bit over the years and I would hate to lose contact with a valued friend. Take care xx

  31. Jane, thank you for your faithfulness over the years to leave comments on my blog. I shall miss you and do hope you return, but totally understand. I enjoyed your photos here of the ocean, so calming and peaceful, really helps one think, doesn't it? So sorry about your precious Bambi. I suppose I will have to be content to just read all of your previous posts. I always enjoyed your presentation of your part of the U.K. I hope you shall return to the blogging world some day.

  33. Marigold Jam - Jane, I've waited to write hoping that I would have something clever to tell you and make everything all better. But I have no smart or funny lines to help you through this. I am truly sorry for your loss. Bambi was a beautiful cat, I hope she is always that in your memories. Thanks for sharing with me and for the emails we've exchanged. Your blog is still wonderful to look at - like pulling out a friend's letter and remembering her sweet words. Enjoy your life.

  35. Oh, au revoir and see you again some time in the future, maybe! I was so sad to read the story of your lovely cat, particularly because we are facing something maybe a bit similar with our dog. Reading your experiences has helped me - thank you. And thank you for all your blogging, which has been so interesting, challenging, encouraging and supportive.
